Nouvelle Vague – Master & Servant
“There’s a new game I like to play you see, a game with added reality.” For anyone that grew up in the 80’s, that line will be immediately recognizable as belonging to one of Depeche Mode’s more popular singles. While the song may be familiar, the arrangement is brand new, or should I say, Nouvelle. The band that brought a fresh, yet nostalgic perspective on 80’s classics is back with their new album, 3. This time their sonic palate has expanded and they actually have Martin Gore (and other original musicians like Ian McCulloch) singing with them. The song itself is acoustic pop with odd elements such as a spring sound sprinkled throughout. Recognizable? Sure. Unoriginal? Not by a long shot.
