Johnny Marr To Release A Cover Of Depeche Mode’s ‘I Feel You’ For Record Store Day
Record Store Day takes place on April 18 this year. A special day reserved each year to celebrate the culture of the independently owned record store. Independent record stores across the world stock hundreds of limited edition, one-off vinyl releases. The full list of releases will be announced today Tuesday, March 10, 2015.
Johnny Marr is set to mark this year’s Record Store Day with a numbered limited edition 7″ release of his interpretation of Depeche Mode’s 1993 classic ‘I Feel You’. Johnny played the track live during the closing shows of last December’s North American tour. The single’s b-side is a live version of The Smiths ‘Please Please Please Let Me Get What I Want’.
“I was playing on my guitar backstage, in the dressing room, and the band kind of joined in,” Marr told XFM of ‘I Feel You’. “[The song] kind of sounded like it suited my band really. I’m guessing we got some of it wrong, in doing it our own way. But that’s a good thing I think, when you tackle someone else’s song…You have to respect it in the first place to like it.”
He added: “For the longest time I meant to get around to listening to Depeche Mode’s version in case I was getting any of the words wrong but it turned out I knew it really rather well.”
