Depeche Mode Demo Tape Surface Online

A demo tape with early Depeche Mode recordings surfaced last Friday at SoundCloud. Its content, excerpts of ‘Photographic’, ‘Ice Machine’ and the previously unreleased ‘Radio News’.

Initially there were doubts about the authenticity of the recordings. Vince Clarke twice denied the genuineness of the tracks via Twitter, first writing “Nah… (we were never that good… V)” and the second time when asked whether the recordings are fake he replied, “erm… yep!… V.”

Pete, one of Home’s administrators, repeatedly insisted that the samples are the real thing mentioning on Twitter “Once the source of the tape is revealed, then all will become clear.” He personally knows the owner of the tape and guarantees that the tracks are genuine. In addition, according to Home, a current member of the band confirmed that the tape is the real thing.
