Depeche Mode frontman will be the voice of the electronica project’s fourth record, ‘The Light the Dead See’

Soulsavers, the music and production team of Rich Machin and Ian Glover, have released three LPs since 2003 with a variety of guest vocalists – most notably Mark Lanegan, known for a long solo career as well as work with Screaming Trees, Queens of the Stone Age and the Gutter Twins. But The Light the Dead See, due May 22nd on Mute, will have a new voice – Depeche Mode frontman Dave Gahan.

“Soulsavers opened for Depeche Mode for a big part of the European tour for the last record we did, and I had been a fan for years,” says Gahan. “We just talked about it and we started to write songs. There was no agenda, really. That’s what was really special about it, there was no one breathing down our backs.”

I found it kind of strange Dave was getting excited about future projects and Rich was like “we’ll see”. Dave said similar things about working with Knox Chandler and crew after Paper Monsters but that kind of fizzled.

Dave should go on his own in terms of his solo work. He has the talent, experience, is an intriguing songwriter and one of the best voices on the planet.I am also of the opinion that Depeche Mode as a team still has plenty to offer.
